about

I wrote this originally in 1982 when i was in a band called Senso Unico – we were a three piece and heavily influenced by the Police, and this became our most well known track as we gigged around West Yorkshire trying to make it (who wasn’t!). It has a lot of influences from driving to and from gigs on the M62 – “lights on the hilltop”, “long mile”, “under the bridge” etc. But the song was really about the challenge I had at the time convincing my family, that I should carry on playing in bands rather than get a proper job. In the end I took the proper job, but carried on gigging regularly (38 years and counting). [Dave Furniss]

lyrics

"Lights across the hilltop, a long mile carries me home
I’m playing on the radio a part of a travelling show
Under the bridge at midnight sheltering from the rain
There’s cold air in my pocket I’m gonna risk my name

Chorus:
You know I’m taking my Journey, it’s taking such a long long time
Gonna hang on to my dreams, for as long as it needs
I’m just a fool for your love, fool for your love

You know that my time has come to get down and work hard
I’ll get ahead in my prime, I’ve got to do it this time
Water under the bridge I’m on and I passed too quick
I’m playing on the radio yes part of a travelling show"

Chorus (repeat)

Composed by: Dave Furniss

Loose Change are:
Dave Furniss – Guitar and Vocals
Paul Heath - Bass and Vocals
Jeff Rose – Drums

I’ve known Jeff and Paul for around 20 years and we’d been in bands together at various times. Loose Change came together in 2008 and we are still playing regularly around Surrey and SW London. We normally play covers, but every now and then I dig “Journey” out, and dust it off, come and see us if you are in the area, all the gig dates are on our Facebook page. [Dave Furniss]

The Sounds of Strangers UK

We are a group of BT musicians who have come together (initially as strangers) to create an album of different music from our bands or solo acts to raise money for charity. Our first album is in support of the World Cancer Research Fund UK.
We wanted to contribute our 'sounds' for the album - responding to an S.O.S. appeal from Phil Brunkard who kicked off the project.
We hope you enjoy.
