"Head first into the ocean, I’ll roll my sleeves up again, cold winds strike my emotions, like a willow tree I will bend. Daytime slips into the concrete, horizon dissolving the sun, I count the seconds like church bells while my body slips loose from my mind….my mind. You build me up to break me down Your aqueous touch keeps me safe and sound I’m scattered like leaves on the garden, lost in the liquid again, once more I give up my freedom, lose myself while the world turns it’s head. Voices and laughter cut through me and I’m in no state to comply, drenched in the juice of redemption, I am a chrysalis waiting to dry….to dry. You build me up to break me down Your aqueous touch keeps me safe and sound Counting the days until I’m, Here’s to you my insipid friend, Pleased to meet you I will pretend, All through the lonely and the restless nights, I‘ll embrace your poison touch for the promise of life.... You won’t break me, you won’t break me".

Freakout "Little bird freaking out again, I hardly know you but you’re my best friend, My heart doesn’t beat for anyone, I pull at the chains until they come undone. Trying hard not to pretend, That pretty girls don’t meet grizzly ends, In bars where broken people say, Never cared much for her anyway did you? Did you lose your baby blue? Was she too good to be true? Are you trying to fill the hole she left, With cigarettes and booze? But it’s not what tonight’s about, So when you hear somebody shout, Freakout. Check around yea you check behind, But what exactly do you think you’ll find? In bars as dark and damp as this, Even the worst of us like to reminisce sometimes. Lost your friends and now your mind, How life can be unkind, Really meant to tell you how I felt, But I never took the time. But it’s not what tonight’s about, So when you hear somebody shout, Freakout. When the boys in the band, Let it get out of hand, Start freaking out. Start freaking out. When there’s glass in your shoes, But you’ve got nothing to lose, Start freaking out. Start freaking out. When your friends have gone home, But you’re not on your own, Start freaking out. Start freaking out. When your feet wanna stop, But it hasn’t worn off, Start freaking out. Start freaking out".

"Oh pretty picture - See you still standing Very much demanding - I am myself I've seen them drift away - far away On my collision course Please make believe - Imagination opens doors And I freeze the crazy dreams Turn them into words See a lot of you - I found the goggles After six I put them on Reach high pointing - At the spirit Maybe I’ll take her home Fresh air taking - oh so badly Till tomorrow - time I was home Then tomorrow I will return again, again And when I drift away Far away - on my collision course I’ll make believe Oh imagination opens doors I freeze - the crazy dreams and turn them into words And I - I have nothing left - have nothing left at all And I have nothing left - and I have nothing left Have nothing left at all Oh Pretty Picture - I don’t see a lot of you Oh my pretty world - Very much demanding I need you Take my time - I need it all From this world I’m standing And I - I have nothing left - nothing left at all And I - I have nothing left And I have nothing left - nothing left Have nothing left at all And I - and I Have nothing left at all And I still have your picture And I still have your picture"

"I’m still waiting for the Earth to wake I’ve been up all night and i’m looking for escape Come down with me and see where I live Float up with me and feel what I see I’m still waiting for the sun to break Up to see it rising, but always up too late It’s the story of my dream, I have one It’s the dancing of the truth and fiction I believe that fools are those who wait I know better now I know it’s not too late I’m still sleeping and I know it’s not late Just keep on driving, and wake me to create What I want you all to see, a vision Of what this young man can make with inspiration I believe that fools are those who wait I know better now I know it’s not too late I believe I’ve started something And fools are those who wait I know better now I know it’s not too late If I can wait I’m still waiting, and thinking it’s too late To keep keeping a light on, and waking up to chase All the things I see dreaming And all I need is something to believe in I believe that fools are those who wait I know better now I know it’s not too late I believe I’ve started something And fools are those who wait I know better now I know it’s not too late"

"Sing a little Song for Me Sing a little Song for Me You've got me feeling good (Sing a little Song for Me) And it's a beautiful longing (Sing a little Song for Me) It's a sweet high (Sing a little Song for Me) That just keeps going Chorus And I'm singing every song for you And I think I love you Your voice like a calling bird (Sing a little Song for Me) And your lips make my body hurt (Sing a little Song for Me) And your sky eyes (Sing a little Song for Me) That get me inside (Sing a little Song for Me) Chorus And I'm singing every song for you And I think I love you And I'm singing every song for you And I think I love you And I'm singing every song for you And I think I love you Sing a little Song for Me"

"It’s all gone quiet now And I’m not lying now It’s all gone quiet now And now I’m alone Listen to the silence now It doesn’t feel right somehow I wish you were here with me -I feel so alone All the pain I felt inside Sat beside your bed and cried Sitting there I held your hand - I felt so alone It’s all gone quiet now And I’m not lying now It’s all gone quiet now And now I’m alone And now the time is quiet time The quiet time is now And now the time is quiet time The quiet time is now Bowed my head and prayed for you There was nothing else to do Waiting for the lord to say - Your times come around Telling people how I feel Doesn’t seem to make it real Still searching for answers now - Still so alone It’s all gone quiet now And I’m not lying now It’s all gone quiet now And now I’m alone And now the time is quiet time The quiet time is now And now the time is quiet time The quiet time is now"

"Before they offer up something worth hanging from, there will be no death for us until we live with what we’ve done I rode in to town on a lame horse, called it hope and left with another man’s bride. She gave away my heart to the beaten track. I trod that crooked mile with a devil on my back. I went to bed with her proposal knowing that love is just for the birds but hate’s universal. They say I’m humble for an arrogant man, who once was lost but now is bound where he’s sat In the mileage of his sleep, a man might expect peace. Given the death he’s woven in to the linen that his bones rest beneath"

"Daydreams as it floats by, all I think about is you Knee deep in a field of flowers, is all that I can do No need to count the hours, I'm lost in a haze of you Are we caught between the showers, are our days a golden hue Chorus Hands held to shield my eyes as i'm blinded by the sun x2 Blinded by the sun Woke up dreaming, sweat drenched sheets soaked through Rub my face take a shower, it's all that i can do Out the door i walk the streets, all I think about is you Didn't appreciate the power of what being on your own can do Chorus Here i am standing, above me the sky is blue No chance today of showers, it's all about me not you No need to count the hours, our days are all but through On the walls of a golden tower, now I can see the view" Chorus x 2

[Verse 1] "Tossing and turning My eyes still burning From the tears I made you cry Such a bitter taste Of love gone to waste Since the day you said goodbye Touched by tenderness By love's sweet caress Nothing to compare Your smile laid me bare I was such a fool Broke our only rule Never meant to break your heart My one sin did gain A lifetime of pain Now we'll always be apart [Chorus] She's flown away now (x3) Touched by tenderness By love's sweet caress Nothing to compare Your smile laid me bare [Verse 2] Just a face was she Meant nothing to me Tempted by forbidden fruit I can't wash away The guilt of that day In a house of ill repute [Bridge] I wish I could cleanse my soul And with a remote control Rewind the hands of time But I've paid a heavy price For a bird of paradise For a bird of paradise [Chorus] She's flown away now" (x3)

Verse 1 "And I don’t really want to try and tease you Still you seem to hope for all you can Your frigidaire mind blows cold but kind I hope that you won’t really mind The times when I seem far away Chorus Oh your wailing time again Oh your wailing time again Verse 2 Fascinated by the sense of values Lost on reasons’ shore for all to see Followed on blind and all the while Trampled on hearts are so sublime Will you ever reach the ground to me Chorus Verse 3 Follow the storm until you reach its’ heart Then with fist of fire in hand Fight for this on burning sand Before you your answers come alive Before you your answers come alive" Chorus End

"Look around the room; you will know what I got Secrets that I keep and I know that are shot There’s an elegance dancing with me that I’ve never known Are you coming for a ride or shall I go it alone CHORUS: That’s what I’m talking about I want to live and die It’s all that matters to me Sparkle in my eyes Forever it will shine It’s all that matters to me Yeah. Believer. Believer. (x2) Look around the world I see me on the phone Just as they will come I will be the red moon I am learning to deal with my pretentious way Knowing deep down I hope this feeling will stay CHORUS That’s what I’m talking about I want to live and die It’s all that matters to me Sparkle in my eyes Forever it will shine It’s all that matters to me Yeah. Believer. Believer. (x2) Say CHORUS: That’s what I’m talking about I want to live and die It’s all that matters to me Sparkle in my eyes Forever it will shine It’s all that matters to me Yeah. Believer. Believer". (x2)

"Ever since I called to you from another room You listened to my fears and you made it clear how it was to be And you’d see me. I’d sit in silence and I’d look at you I didn’t seem to know exactly how to say the things that I needed to Just to stop me losing you. And when you gave to me space in your tears for my sorrow Lying awake with me you gave me hope for tomorrow. Knowing I was hurting you was only wrong At the time we thought we knew we’d always carry on But the days had to end And my soul descends. Of all the different things I could promise you I’m always coming back and finding you wherever you’ll be And you’ll see me. And when you say to me, “This can be yours forever.” Lying awake with me sharing my moment’s pleasure. Knowing I was hurting you was only wrong At the time we thought we knew we’d always carry on But the days had to end And my soul descends. Knowing I was hurting you was oh so wrong At the time we thought we knew we’d always carry on But the days had to end And my soul… Hurting you was so wrong Every time I thought I knew what else was going on But the pain never ends And my souls descends". © 2006 Words and Music: Daniel Smith

"Lost in New York, Shadows at my shoulder and I see fear in the eyes of a stranger So I head underground, down into the stations, subterranean Where I spy Bill, alias Mr. William Hiding behind your copy of the New York Times… … Well you don’t fool me Mr. William Now who can you trust in this make-shift world? Who can you trust? Climbed out of the Subway it was 1960, I was 28 years old. All I could see was the slow dead smile of Uncle Sam with a needle in his hand and the black flashes above me and fades out and it fades out I see laughing skulls and dancing bones… Is this Mexico City or the Hudson River Where am I? Am I lost on New York? Trapped inside the New York Zones and which way can I turn? Towers burn and the image breaks up and time is just damaged goods that slips between the gaps and slides down into the New York subway system So the goons follow me down into the New York subway system I’ve got spooks on my trail They wait and they watch Like dead men in paradise Spooks on my Trail Watching … and they wait And they watch…"
25.
"Open your eyes and look at me You are so shy, my heart it bleeds For you, oh won’t you stay with me tonight? My heart’s in two, I can’t decide To be with you, or run and hide Your so cold, it numbs my weary mind. CHORUS: Hard to be with you Your pain and anger cuts right through Hard to be with you Can’t bare the thought of losing you. When I’m with you, you make me feel My heart’s in two, it’s just not real For me, Oh won’t you stay with me tonight?"
26.
"Lights across the hilltop, a long mile carries me home I’m playing on the radio a part of a travelling show Under the bridge at midnight sheltering from the rain There’s cold air in my pocket I’m gonna risk my name Chorus: You know I’m taking my Journey, it’s taking such a long long time Gonna hang on to my dreams, for as long as it needs I’m just a fool for your love, fool for your love You know that my time has come to get down and work hard I’ll get ahead in my prime, I’ve got to do it this time Water under the bridge I’m on and I passed too quick I’m playing on the radio yes part of a travelling show" Chorus (repeat)
27.
"Find the time to repeat your old mistakes, See the signs of defeat on every face, Build a wall ten feet tall to hide your heart, See the end as the end and not the start. I see you falling, I hear you calling too. I will be waiting, Catch you when you fall, when you fall. Feel the sun beating down upon your face, Like the tears of a clown, you’ll leave no trace, Feel your soul growing older every day, Find your tongue, find it’s got nothing to say. I see you falling, I hear you calling too. I will be waiting, Catch you when you fall, when you fall. Wear your heart on your sleeve with no reprieve, Feel your feet beat retreat out on the street, Head for home on your own, and you’re all alone, Hear your doubts and your shouts, you’re checking out. I see you falling, I hear you calling too. I will be waiting, Catch you when you fall, when you fall".
28.
"I'll walk to wherever you want me to. They got in through the cracks in our homes - they're in your skin and now your bones. Could fall into the cold, great unknown. Fly an astral plane, or sail on solar waves - go through doors and go back home. If you find out sometime, somehow, please tell me what you have found 'cause I'm going crazy. Constructed out of sticks and nervous ticks. Exterminate all of the hate - there is no second Earth. Brave new world or just a black hole? Don't let them convince you that it's real because it's not. I came in and I left..."

"Move on Monk’s pepper, filthy Friday Rise again Juniper, filthy Friday Let’s panic, I’ve had it, a rhubarb absinthe Mind, body spirit end of rainbows are absent Medussa saves torn out organs in graves Blood encrusted constrictions, tangled Venomous shades Golden rain tree pips, blister cap and mushroom What’s a rat’s feast is a starling’s poison The wrong convulsions with dead man’s fingers Good willow and dock leaf after mistletoe kiss stingers The waning moon, where are you hiding It’s time to quit rose quartz guiding’s It’s growing, gut feelings sink into oblivion Pure guilt replaced by elusive submissions Scouring for scraps, nuts, berries and crushed all My big passion hides his light under a bushel A thorn, it’s gonna hurt Tea’s bitter astringent gets out the dirt Daffodil falls on the lily pad It’s the best sweet nectar that I’ve ever had If you never feared any failure I’ll call that psychopathic behaviour The quiet hedgerow of an early spring It’s the best lush leaves that I’m hiding in"
31.
"I’m waking up today Your lies have shown me what I need to know You carry on that way you’ll run out of roads You’ll turn to your friends but they won’t want to know And I don’t want to be with you no more Cant believe you did this You tore me apart you threw my pieces on the floor Cant believe you did this What goes around comes around you’ll soon see You’ll soon see everything You’ve live a life followed by shadows and deceit You’re finally out of words I would have given everything to you I opened up and let my guard down for you And then you stabbed me in the back I trusted you And I don’t want to be with you no more Cant believe you did this You tore me apart you threw my pieces on the floor Cant believe you did this What goes around comes around you’ll soon see You’ll soon see everything You’ve live a life followed by shadows and deceit (middle 8) And I don’t want to be with you no more Cant believe you did this You tore me apart you threw my pieces on the floor Cant believe you did this What goes around comes around you’ll soon see You’ll soon see everything You’ve live a life followed by shadows and deceit You’ve live a life followed by shadows and deceit"

(Blues variation in E) "Won’t you hang your coat, here upon my stone? Won’t you hang your coat, here upon my stone? You’ve a hard day’s work ahead, Fields of green to be painted red, So won’t you hang your coat, here upon my stone? You’ve a hard day’s work ahead, While I’m dried up, flesh and bone. Let me share with you the story, of the stone that bears my name, Of the things I did in anger, but reflect upon in shame, Of a young man’s thirst for glory, though my marching days are done, Won’t you hang your coat, here upon my stone? Won’t you lay your head down, here where I sleep? Won’t you lay your head down, here where I sleep? I’m a Waterloo tooth beyond, Long dead and gone, Won’t you lay your head down, here where I sleep? I’m a Waterloo tooth beyond, Where the toe-biter, cut me deep. The cannon-smoke was drifting as the view began to clear, The bugles and retreating drums fell deaf upon my ear, While the battlefront was shifting, all my marching days were done, Won’t you hang your coat, here upon my stone? Moments when you felt so brave, The peace and kinship that you crave, When you hear me from beyond the grave, They’re gone, all gone".

about

www.facebook.com/thesoundsofstrangers

This venture kicked off in February 2015 following an appeal by Phil Brunkard in support of his fundraising efforts for the World Cancer Research Fund. Phil posted an ad in BT seeking out colleagues who played music who would be interested in contributing a track for the album. The idea would be to release and sell the album via download to raise money for the charity.

The response was fantastic resulting in the great and extensive collection of wonderful and varied music on offer here.

Phil is trekking up Kilimanjaro in February 2016 and set a target to raise £5,895 for the charity.

See: mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/getphilupthehill

The aim of the album is to help achieve this target.

However the venture has grown beyond that and we hope the target will be greatly exceeded.

According to Phil: "The project is now much bigger than my initial effort to seek fundraising support. It is about great musical talent from across the whole of BT coming together and helping out for a good cause. That is something all of us contributing are proud of but there is also some great music that deserve to be heard by a wider audience inside and outside of BT and some great stories of why people are doing this and have come together to make this happen".

For example two of the tracks ('Willow Tree' and 'Quiet Time') cover the painful issue of cancer but remain upbeat and uplifting songs of hope and recovery. Several of those involved have or are suffering the pains of cancer and many have lost loved ones through the illness.

Despite this - This is an uplifting and positive story of people collaborating and contributing their talent to promote awareness and raise funds for much needed and critical cancer research: mydonate.bt.com/charities/worldcancerresearchfunduk

The music covers a broad and diverse range to suit most tastes. There are new bands just starting out, seasoned veterans, people who produce great music solo at home and others who have collaborated and come together especially for this album.

ENJOY!

about

The Sounds of Strangers UK

We are a group of BT musicians who have come together (initially as strangers) to create an album of different music from our bands or solo acts to raise money for charity. Our first album is in support of the World Cancer Research Fund UK.
We wanted to contribute our 'sounds' for the album - responding to an S.O.S. appeal from Phil Brunkard who kicked off the project.
We hope you enjoy.
