'Ritual' was written and recorded around 1991, inspired by a mate in the pub being very pretentious about meeting a young lady.
I loved his use of " assignation" about his date.......it was so very old world....brilliant.
This transformed itself into the whole dating/dreaming about dating that most of us suffered growing up.
It was probably the first time I wrote a straightforward pop song for the band, rather than our more involved progressive songs we produced previously.
The song wasn't released as a single, but featured in a compilation album released 1991/1992. by a local studio and label.
It actually got us interest and gigs through a chap who was hoping to set up business in music management and promotion. [Ross McVie]

In 1989, after several years of a musical partnership between Ross and Roddy through a variety of bands, Roddy “abandoned” his home country for the warmer climes of France. But there was still a desire between Roddy and Ross to continue their partnership via a crazy long distance plan to form a new band in Scotland and tour France the following year. Hence Intimate Strangers was born.
The recruitment of Alan Morton (keyboards) and Alan Henderson (drums) formed the Scottish hub of the band, however a bass player was still required. A young lad, Keith “chicken tan” Durie (bass) came along to his first rehearsal and was immediately offered a tour of Northern France!
The “Something to Believe In” album was released and the band set off the following summer (1990) for a tour of Brittany (via an impromptu garden gig in Cheddar). Joining up with Roddy, the band played numerous gigs over 2 weeks, one highlight being in front of the city walls at St Malo when the pavement floodlights came on under the drummer’s throne! The decision was soon made to repeat the experience.
Dee joined on guitar the following year and a new album “From What’s Gone Past” was recorded with the release of a number of singles. The band continued playing around Edinburgh. In 1991 another highly successful 3 week tour of France was undertaken with all six members playing.
In 1993, intimate strangers went their separate ways, but in 2012 re-united for another gig (with the exception of Alan Morton who was by that time in the USA). From that came plans to reissue the tracks that the band had recorded in the early 90s. The result is the new CD, released November 2014 which includes some previously unreleased material.
“toys to lovers (from what’s gone past….and yet to come)”.
With 4 original members reuniting once again, work has started on new tracks for a follow-up album for 2015.
